Ban Thungluang

History

        Thungluang is famous of pottery in Sukhothai. Inside the village, there are more than 200 pottery manufacturing houses. They are still using the original manufacturing that was pass on more than one hundred year from their ancestor from 14 th century Christian Era that was the boom of Sawankalok's pottery age.         Thungluang village is located in Thungluang sub-district, Khirimat district, 17 kilometers away from Sukhothai city. This village was supported by the Department of Industrial Promotion until it was announced to be " An Excellent Industrial Village " and also was selected by the Department of Industrial Promotion and Tourism Authority of Thailand due to the development of this village as a rural industrial village of tourism.

         Thungluang's pottery products are of various styles. There are household-use products and home-decorative things, such as lamps, vases, water jugs, statue etc.

         The most spectacular Thungluang product is " Mor Kran "which is an ancient container, produced by mixing clay and much sand together. This mixture of clay and sand releases the heat, making the inside water cooler than the regular container.

         You will stay in one of the villager's houses with their family. Enjoy the cultural experience and learn about Thai cooking and making the ancient pottery following the families traditional methods, design, forming, creating products and do a scrollwork. Besides that you can enjoy the indigenous dancing. Enjoy the rural environment there are plenty of walks or bicycle rides that you can take along these cool shady areas. You can see them making the pottery following their skill on a basement.
